Temple Christian Suns Blaze a Trail at the 2026 Frank “Pancho” Rahming Championships

NASSAU, The Bahamas — The Thomas A. Robinson Stadium was awash in black and gold last week as the Temple Christian School Suns delivered a masterclass in speed, strength, and stamina at the 2026 Frank “Pancho” Rahming National Primary and High School Track and Field Championships.

Coming off a historic run of multiple high achieving competitions, the Suns entered the 2026 meet with high expectations. From April 14–17, the elementary and high school squads proved why they remain a powerhouse in Bahamian athletics, securing a flurry of medals and maintaining their reputation as a one of the strongest track and field programs in the country.

Early Dominance on the Track

The elementary division set the tone early in the competition. By the end of the first morning session, the Suns had already secured five medals across various disciplines.

The highlight of the opening days included a blistering performance by Clinton Brown in the Boys 13-and-Under 1200m, where the Suns continued their tradition of middle-distance dominance. The team’s depth was on full display as athletes won gold long jump (Gizelle Pearson) and silver in the high jump (Chaz Cunningham).

Key Performance Highlight:

Field Success: Temple Christian wasn’t just about speed; the school saw significant point contributions in the Shot Put, Long Jump, and High Jump proving the versatility of the 2026 roster.

In the end, our elementary athletes didn’t just win; they dominated the field. The Suns finished as the #1 ranked team overall, making history as the only school in this year’s competition to amass more than 100 points in both categories:

Girls Division: 172 Points 🥇

Boys Division: 126.67 Points 🥇

A Legacy of Excellence

This year’s performance follows a string of recent successes for Temple Christian. Just last month, the school claimed a prestigious third-place finish at the BAISS Track and Field Championships, and that momentum clearly carried over into the “Pancho” Rahming nationals.

A massive shoutout to the masterminds behind this success—Coach Francis and Coach Demeritte! Your leadership, discipline, and dedication to these young stars are unmatched. The coaching staff attributed the success to the “Sun Spirit”—a combination of rigorous training and academic discipline. School officials noted that one athlete representing the Suns last week also represented Team Bahamas at the 2026 CARIFTA Games in Grenada earlier this year, which was standout hurdler Jasmine Thompson.

Looking Ahead

As the 2026 track season begins to wind down, the Temple Christian community is already looking toward the future. With two divisional place trophies – U20 Girls Divisional Third Place and U20 Overall Divisional Third Place – heading back to the Shirley Street campus, the Suns have once again solidified their place among the top of the national standings.

”Our students don’t just run; they represent a legacy,” said a team representative. “To see our elementary students shining on the same stage where national legends were born is a testament to the hard work of our coaches and parents.”

And so, to our incredible parents, thank you for your unwavering support and for cheering the loudest in the stands!
