Jonathan Lloyd places second in spelling bee

Temple Christian’s Jonathan Lloyd claims second place in BAISS Spelling Bee

On January 27, 2026, after more than 3 hours of competition, Temple Christian eighth grade Jonathan Lloyed emerged as the first runner up in the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools’ (BAISS) spelling bee. Lloyd, along with Charles Burrows Jr. and Ashton Edwards competed for Temple Christian School against a host of students from other private schools. Jonathan excelled above 38 other spellers in a thirteen-round competition to secure the prestigious 2nd place award.

The top three finishers were as follows:

1) Jules Carey, Windsor

2) Jonathan Lloyd, Temple Christian

3) Melissa Cruz, St. Andrews

The entire faculty, staff, and students at Temple Christian School congratulate Jonathan, his family, and his faithful coach, Mrs. Chandra Minns for a job well done! We also celebrate Mrs. Bryan-Walkin and Mrs. Samuel for their preparation of, and work with our students. We also wish to recognize the contributions of Elizabeth Gibson, his team member who helped him to prepare for the competition. We salute all of our competitors on their hard work and accomplishments and look forward to what these young men and young woman will continue to achieve in their futures!
